What Does ‘Backorder’ Mean?

You may have spotted that some of our products are now available on backorder, and we thought we'd explain exactly what that means (because it's actually really simple!).

Currently we have King Cole Yarn and Knitting & Crochet Patterns on backorder, with the hope to add more products from other lines in the future.

What Does "Backorder" Actually Mean?

A backorder means the item isn't currently sitting on our shelves, but we can order it in especially for you.

Rather than waiting for us to restock before you can place your order, backordering lets you secure the products you want straight away. As soon as your order comes through, we'll order those items from our supplier and get them on their way to us.

How will I know if an item is on backorder?

Products available on backorder will be clearly marked on the product page before you place your order. Your order confirmation will also state that the item is expected to arrive within approximately 7 days.

How long does it take?

In most cases, your backordered items will arrive with us in around 7 days. Once they've arrived, we'll carefully pack your order and send it out to you using your chosen Royal Mail service.

You'll see this estimated timeframe on your order confirmation too, so don't worry if you don't receive a dispatch email after a day or two—that simply means we're waiting for your items to arrive with us first.

Ordering backorder items with in-stock items

If your order contains both in-stock and backorder items, we'll usually wait until everything has arrived before sending your order together. This helps keep shipping costs as low as possible.

Why are we offering backorders?

One of the things we love most is being able to offer you as much choice as possible.

Sometimes it's just not practical for us to keep every colour, every pattern and every product on the shelf all the time. By introducing backorders, we can offer a much wider range without you having to wait for us to restock before placing your order.

At the moment, backorders are available on selected King Cole yarns and knitting & crochet patterns, but if all goes well, we'd love to offer this option across even more of our products in the future.
