The Pony Ply Splitting Needle is a specialist metal needle designed for ply-splitting work — a technique in which a needle is used to pierce through the plies of a twisted cord, pulling a second cord through the opening to create intricate woven and patterned structures. At 4.50mm in diameter, it is suited to medium to heavier weight cords made from materials such as crochet cotton, cotton floss, silk, rayon, or similar plied threads.
To use, separate the plies of a cord with the needle’s tip, then draw a further cord through the gap. The metal construction gives the needle the rigidity needed to push cleanly between tight plies without bending.
