Sewing Project | Pencil / Knitting Needle Case

This week we are making a pencil case / knitting needle case.

The design is a flat bottom case with a zip - we have made it suitable for knitting needles up to about 33cm long.

It is also fab as a back to school pencil case!

Take a look at what you need and the instructions below:

What you will need:

  • PINS
You might want to secure your fabric when sewing to stop slipping.
  • CUTTING BOARD
For a flat surface you can cut on.

  • THREAD
You might want to choose a neutral white, or match the thread to your cotton.
  • SEWING MACHINE

Step 1: Create a template

Start with a rectangle 35cm x 10cm.

Add triangles to the short edges - 3cm to the longside and draw a line to meet the top edge of the 35cm.

Add a rectangle to the bottom long edge, from the 10cm short edge - 3cm down, 35cm along.

Step 2: Fold cotton in half

Back sides facing

Step 3: Draw around template on cotton x2

Top long edge of template along the folded line. Using fabric marker. Pin. Create two of these.

Step 4: Cut out

Using shears or rotary blade.

Step 5: Place top edge of one of the cottons along the zip
